Milestones in The Lives of Our Daughters

Weddings

Marriage is a valuable institute in any society, and that is particularly true in Nepal. Being married makes living more economically sustainable, and it adds another layer of protection for our daughters from being vulnerable. The Nepali people will stigmatize a daughter as unwell or problematic if she is not wed by marrying age, however they will look at her more favorably once she is wed. Marriage also brings great joy and companionship when our daughters are matched with good men, and so we celebrate the marriages of two of our daughters: Anjali Das and Deepa Shahi. Anjali has married Dinesh Sunar who has his own business selling fruit in Chitwan and is joined by Anjali’s tailoring business supported by our partners. Deepa has married Binod Karki who is a construction mechanic in his hometown and is joined by Deepa who left her old tailor shop and will begin a new shop in her husband’s hometown.

Graduations

This quarter, 12 of our daughters have completed their coursework and graduated from the Training Center. Each of these daughters are trained in a specific skill whether cooking, sewing/tailoring, cosmetology and more that they can use in the community to earn income. Having a sustainable way to care for themselves and their families eliminates our daughters from being prey to traffickers. We are proud of their hard work and determination, and we celebrate this step as they now become leaders for change in their communities. Congratulations daughters! We know great things lie ahead.
